Delta's Trade Size tool vs a stop-loss lot size calculator
PerpScale · Updated · how we check numbers
In short
Delta Exchange's in-app Trade Size calculator answers "how many lots can my margin open?": lots = margin × leverage ÷ (entry × lot size). It doesn't look at your stop or fees. A stop-loss lot size calculator answers "how many lots can I open so a stop-out costs at most my risk?". Example on BTCUSD at 100,000 with a 0.5% stop: ₹10,000 of margin at 10× opens 11 lots, which lose ₹577.55 at the stop; at 50× it opens 58 lots and loses ₹3,045.29. Sizing from a ₹1,000 risk gives 19 lots and a ₹997.59 loss, whatever the leverage.
What Delta's Trade Size calculator does
Delta's help centre describes the in-app Trade Size feature as margin × leverage divided by the value of one lot:
trade size (lots) = margin × leverage ÷ (entry × lot size)
It is a capacity check: the biggest position your margin allows. Your stop loss and the fees don't enter the formula. Source: Delta Exchange calculator features.
What a stop-loss lot size calculator does
loss per lot = price loss to stop + entry fee + exit fee + GST lots = floor(risk ÷ loss per lot)
It starts from the loss you accept and works back to the size. Leverage then only decides how much margin those lots need.
Same trade, both ways
BTCUSD long at 100,000, stop at 99,500 (0.5%), taker in and out:
| Method | Lots | Loss at stop | vs ₹1,000 risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trade Size: ₹10,000 margin × 10× | 11 | ₹577.55 | 0.58× |
| Trade Size: ₹10,000 margin × 50× | 58 | ₹3,045.29 | 3.05× |
| From ₹1,000 risk (any leverage) | 19 | ₹997.59 | 1.00× |
Trade Size lots grow with leverage, and so does the loss at the same stop. The risk-based size stays put.
When to use which
- Use a stop-loss lot size calculator to decide the size of a trade.
- Use Trade Size to check that your margin can carry that size at the leverage you picked.
- Both together: size from risk, then pick the lowest leverage that fits the margin — liquidation stays further away. The lot size calculator shows the margin for its answer.
FAQ
Is Delta's Trade Size the same as position size?
It is the largest position your margin and leverage allow, not the size that fits your risk. It doesn't use your stop loss or fees.
Does Delta have a stop-loss based position size calculator?
Delta's fee calculator works forward from a size you already chose, and Trade Size works from margin × leverage. Sizing backwards from a stop loss and a ₹ risk is what a separate lot size calculator adds.
Should I use the maximum Trade Size?
Only if a stop-out at that size is a loss you accept. In the example, the 50× Trade Size loses 3.05× a ₹1,000 risk at a 0.5% stop.
